About The Farm

Starr Mountain Farmstead began with a dream long before we ever moved to this property in 2021. Before that, we lived on a small piece of land where we gardened heavily and worked toward growing more of our own food. Becoming a Master Gardener was part of that journey, but the roots of this lifestyle go back much further.

Part of the foundation behind our farm comes from growing up where raising food at home was simply a way of life. Cows were milked, pork and chickens were raised, food was preserved seasonally, and families lived much closer to the land than most people do today. Those experiences and values eventually helped shape the direction of our own farm.

Today, Starr Mountain Farmstead is built around regenerative farming practices, rotational grazing, biodiversity, and raising animals naturally in environments where they are able to live as they were intended. Our cows move to fresh pasture daily, chickens follow behind in mobile pasture systems, and our pigs spend their lives rooting and foraging in the woods.

Life on the farm is full of daily work — milking cows, moving animals, building healthy soil, preserving food, making butter and cheese, and constantly learning how to produce more of what we consume ourselves. It is not always easy, but we believe knowing where our food comes from and how it is raised matters.

More than anything, we want people to feel connected to real food again — food raised with care, intention, stewardship, and respect for both the land and the animals that sustain us.
